KT'S UPDATE - 09/06/2008

Hi Everyone,

I’ve just got a quick update for you before I head off to Sydney for my gig tonight.

We’re settling in nicely here on the Central Coast, and what great views! I better be careful or I might get used to it and never want to leave!

I’m still writing songs all the time (working on them, at least) and I’m very happy with some of them. I’m really looking forward to seeing what happens with my music in the future, and where I take it all!

If you’ve sent any emails to my address (info@katiebrianna.com) recently, you may have found they’ve bounced back to you or similar. I’ve been having a little bit of a problem with it and hope to have it sorted out soon. Meanwhile, you can write to my other address: katiebrianna@hotmail.com.

About that gig tonight… it’s at a little place called ‘Bar Me’ in Kings Cross. It features Jack Jaffe, Coby Grant and myself, so there’s a bit of a mix in there which should make for an interesting show. All the details are in my gig guide but contact the venue for more info. Please come if you’re anywhere in the area!

Heading off soon so take care!

KT x

P.S- Happy Birthday Rachel!

KT’S UPDATE – 15/04/08

Hi Everyone!

Remember that rollercoaster I mentioned? Well… I’m still on it! Though, it’s not necessarily a bad thing. Something about this particular rollercoaster has changed. I now know where it’s going! I’m sure about where I’m going to be living now... where I will call home. No prizes for guessing… the Central Coast! Yep! If you can’t beat em’, join em’! ;-)

Now, about the songs! I truly believe my relationship with ‘writer’s block’ is over! (For now) I didn’t like it, and it didn’t like me! I’ve been working on some songs which I think really see me moving forward as a songwriter. Writing is something that really makes me content. Whether that means I’m feeling happy or sad, it doesn’t matter. Contentment to me is so much more than ‘just’ an emotion. It’s something I’ve been missing for a long time! Not now the songs are back!

Shortly I will be making the move to ‘Hillbilly Heaven’ (do they still call it that??), so I suppose you won’t be hearing from me until I’m all settled in my new home. Let’s just hope this one sticks.

I’ve got a few more gigs coming up (check the gig guide) so as I always request, please, please come if you can make it!

See you somewhere soon!

KT x

P.S: I just finished another song!

P.P.S: I like grammar… and punctuation, even though I sometimes get it wrong and I tend to go a little overboard!!!!! :-)

KT'S UPDATE - 28-02-08

Hello!

These past few months have been somewhat like a rollercoaster for me…

How ya doin? I’m doin fine!

It is currently storming and raining in buckets and doesn’t look like it’s going to let up anytime soon… so the weather is STILL terrible. It’s all over the place and because of this weather (It IS summer, isn’t it?) I’ve only been for one swim! ONE! I might have to resort to snorkelling in the bath!

These past few months have been like a rollercoaster for me…

After moving back home to Newcastle, things became settled for a while… I had my steak-house job (no longer) and it was all pretty easy.

My plans though, grew all over the place, due to circumstances out of my control. Staying in Newcastle, or moving to the Central Coast? Oh no, wait, back to the mountains. Oh no, sorry, not going back now… going to Central Coast. Am I sure? No. I don’t want to speak too soon! Unstable and unsteady… all this has been a good thing I guess because at least I got a song out of it.

I WROTE A SONG!!!

Still, these past few months have been like a rollercoaster for me…

Tamworth was fun… I made an ‘exclusive’ appearance and joined Karl Broadie on stage for a song. Other than that I had fun just hangin’ out and going to watch other people play and catching up with everyone!

Right now I’m working a temp job (thanks Sheri). Money is always helpful! This temp job, however, led to me getting attacked by a pack of ferocious ants! I could hardly walk for an hour… until I found some Stingoes.

Well, that’s about it really, just wanted to let you know how the ride was going.

Take care

KT x

KT'S UPDATE - 13-12-2007

Hello!

Well, first things first. As I usually start my updates with apologies for not writing more frequently… I’ll get that out of the way. Sorry about that, but believe me, I have MANY good excuses. None of them really include being busy.

Another apology. To anyone and everyone I have lost contact with over the past few years and mainly this past year… I’m really sorry. It was not on purpose and I am now doing my best to try get back in contact,  but I have basically been hiding deep in a cave.

From my first update to my last… There is a reason why there are none in between even though in one sense it was the craziest year of my life yet, and in another… the quietest.

Reading through my last update it feels like it was just yesterday, but at the same time this year has just dragged and dragged and DRAGGED! Enough of that. It’s depressing and I’m sure you don’t want to hear that.

This year I did manage to achieve a few things though. I had a job in Sydney as a secretary which I stuck at for over a month. The travel was too much in the end. Around 3 hours a day was spent catching various trains. Also, I just landed myself a job at a well known steak –house so that should keep my busy for a while!

Currently I am sitting back at “home” in Newcastle. My boyfriend / partner / whichever you like got a new job but because of some silly system of appeals, he may not keep it. I know he’s good at what he does and he deserves this job so I hope he does keep it because it’s nice being back home with something / someone to talk to other than the walls.

The weather here is terrible at the moment, just humid, hot days, stormy nights and rain. It is not so bad, it’s just seeing as though I went and bought myself the first swimsuit I’ve had in quite a few years that will fit me, it’d seem a shame for that go to waste. I even bought one of those big fancy floppy black hats! All I need now is a tan to go with it, but there’s no such thing as a healthy tan!! Ok, I’ll admit it... I have been considering trying out one of those spray tans! Everyone’s doing it!

I know this update seems more like a diary and it’s definitely a little more personal than some but musically, I haven’t been up to much. I have had a few gigs here and there but I’m still struggling on the writing front. I do know I have it in me somewhere… I’m just trying to find exactly where.

So…Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, whatever way you celebrate or don’t celebrate, I hope you’ve had a good year and that next year is even better!

Well, I was born a rambler. No not really, I was born quite shy but have become fond of rambling. I think it’s time to wrap this up like a Christmas present! See my gig guide a couple of gigs coming up. Please come if you can make it to either of these as I would really love to see you all!

Bye for now, but not too long.
KT x

That’s what I said in my last update and once again, I’m sorry it has taken such a long time.

Bye for now, I’m not sure how long.

KT x

P.S: Might see you in Tamworth 2008, I’ll be there just hanging around for a few days…

KT'S UPDATE - 25-04-2007

Hello!

Here is my first update for the year 2007! Sorry it has taken me so long!

I haven’t yet reported on my experience at the Tamworth Country Music Festival so just a bit about that now…It started at the College where, for two weeks, I was living and breathing music with some great talent from all around Oz and NZ. During the festival I got to see some great artists including; (The Flood – A Must!) and Jim Lauderdale. At the CM Awards where I was a finalist for New Talent, the McClymonts beat me to it, but I didn’t really expect to win at such an early stage in my career. It was pretty cool just to get dressed up and be there! Overall I had a pretty good experience this year.

As soon as I arrived home from Tamworth it was down to Sydney for a songwriters’ workshop with Jim Lauderdale. It was a new experience for me as I hadn’t really done any co-writing. I paired up with Jake Nickolai to do some writing and Jim helped us out a whole lot. So now I guess I can say I’ve co-written with Jake Nickolai and Jim Lauderdale!

When I got home from Sydney I had to finish packing as I was just about to move out of home for the first time. I was home for about two days after Tamworth so I guess you could say I moved out a month before I moved out... Ha! I now live in the beautiful (and cold) Blue Mountains of NSW.

Since then I’ve had many firsts… My first vote, my first clothes wash (that I did all by myself), my first blood test (I think they were laughing at me on account of how much I was freaking out!), AND I have become a beauty school drop-out (Not the kind that drops out of high school to go to beauty school, even though that’s half true, but the kind that THEN drops out of beauty school to do, well, I’m not quite sure of that yet!). It just wasn’t right for me and I’m glad I realised that quickly. It has been both an eventful and uneventful time here for me. I’m still working on getting my licence, and as a result of this I have become a kind-of housewife without a husband!

It hasn’t been all that bad, not bad at all! I also recently had the privilege of a day of song composure with my friend the other, other KB, Karl Broadie. It was splendid and I thank him for the coffee.

ANYWAY, I can see myself rambling on and on and on here about mundane and mysterious events of my life but I’m afraid I have some washing up to do.

See the gig guide for a couple of gigs I have coming up. One will see me return as a guest artist to Hexham Bowling Club, where I gained a lot of my confidence as a performer and learnt a bunch!

Bye for now, but not too long.
KT x

P.S: I saw Fred Eaglesmith at The Vanguard in Sydney recently and he was fantastic as always!

KT'S UPDATE - 20/12/2006

Well... I guess it’s getting pretty close to Christmas and everyone is finding themselves very busy, so I’ll TRY make this quick!

First some pretty exciting news some of you might’ve already heard! When the finalists for the 2006 Country Music Awards of Australia were announced… my name was included! Along with The McClymonts, Cat Southern, Donna Boyd & Nik Phillips, in the New Talent of the year category! I’ve already bought a new dress! I feel pretty honoured to be nominated for something like this so early on in my career. Of course, I couldn’t have done it without Paul Kelly having written such a great song! The winners will be announced at the awards in Tamworth on the 27th January next year. (Which is coming up VERY soon... less than 2 weeks ‘til the new year!)

Apologies to anyone who may have gone to the James Reyne gig at The Vanguard last Friday to see me. (Funny, huh?) I was at the tail end of a cold and I tried and TRIED to get better, but in the end I really just couldn’t do it. My singing voice was not up to it! I hope to be back there singin’ in the future!

I’ll be appearing at the Peats Ridge Festival at the end of this month so make sure you check my website over the next couple of days to see the details!

Until next year… Merry Christmas and have a HAPPY SILLY SEASON!!

Be safe!
